AI CAD
A desktop app for CNC shops that reads a 3D model and its drawing, plans the machining and prices the job. It runs on local models, so customer files never leave the machine.

The problem
Quoting depended on one or two experienced estimators, and customer CAD files are often confidential, so cloud tools were off the table.
What I built
Groups STEP geometry into machining features, reads the PDF drawing with a local vision-language model, matches the callouts to the features, plans the operations and calculates time and cost from the shop's own rates.
The outcome
A delivered desktop app that outputs machining time, a cost breakdown and the operation sequence, running on the shop's own hardware.
How it works

The 3D model is read and its surfaces are grouped into machining features such as holes, countersinks and fillets.

A local vision-language model reads the PDF drawing for tolerances, finishes, threads, material and notes.

Drawing callouts are matched to geometric features by diameter, position and type.
- 04
Operations are planned from the tolerance class, then tooling is assigned.

Time and cost are calculated with standard machining formulas and the shop's own rates.
